WOOD WARRANTIES

This is general information regarding wood warranties. Each manufacturer has a written warranty and list of exclusions. Be sure to get the warranty applicable to your product.

Exclusions and Limitations:

  • Natural wood characteristics such as mineral streaks, knots, grain variations and normal differences between actual product and samples are not considered manufacturers defects.
  • Warranties do not cover damage, indentations, scratches or stains arising from negligence, accident, abuse, fire or excessive heat, abnormal wear, spike heels, grit, sand or other abrasives, dents, pets, or insect infestation after product has left the factory.
  • Any problem arising from improper installation is not covered. All installations must be in accordance with industry standards.
  • The sole obligation and liability of the manufacturer is to repair, replace or refinish the floor, in part or in whole, at no cost to the original purchaser, at the manufacturer’s discretion. Applies to the material cost only. This does not cover original installation costs.
  • No warranty coverage is provided for flooring that contains obvious defects of any kind that were installed nonetheless.
  • Cleaning & maintenance products must be manufacturer approved. Use of non approved cleaning and maintenance products will void all warranties. Contact your sales consultant for approved products for your flooring.
  • Warranty does not cover color changes resulting from exposure to UV light. Normal exposure to sunlight will cause changes in the shading on any wood floor and this is not considered a defect.
  • Area rugs should have an approved rug hold or pad under it to prevent damage to the wood floor. They should be removed occasionally as they block sunlight and may give the appearance of discoloration under the rug.
  • After the wood is installed it is critical to maintain the temperature and humidity within the ranges set by the manufacturer. Failure to follow these ranges especially with regards to humidity can result in performance failure or damage to your floor.
  • In addition, you must maintain your floor in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Warranties do not cover damage or unsatisfactory performance caused by excessive moisture including, but not limited to, improper humidity inside the home, excessive ground moisture that migrates into the home for any reason, water leaks caused by broken pipes or appliances, weather conditions or natural disasters such as flooding or excessive rainfall.
  • Since wood is a natural product it will expand and contract as moisture and humidity levels change.
  • Normal expansions and contraction which results in separations between flooring boards are not covered by these warranties.
  • These warranties exclude and will not pay consequential or incidental damages associated with any warranty claim.
  • Repair, refinish or replacement of the flooring materials are the sole remedies.
  • All warranties are limited to the original purchaser only.
  • The finish applied to boards neither increases the hardness of the wood nor its resistance to blows and compression caused by heavy objects, as well as anything falling on the floor, that can mar or damage the wood surface and finish.
  • The finish will withstand total wear through the course of normal use and proper maintenance for the period designated by the manufacturer’s warranty period. Gloss reduction is not considered wear through, therefore, is not covered under the finish warranty.
  • Applicable products will be free from manufacturing defects. Manufacturing defects are improper milling, laminating or grading.
