Ceramic Tile Care

Protecting Your Investment:

  • Use protective maps – Good quality entry and exit mats will help protect your ceramic tile from premature wear. They will help trap dirt, sand, grit, asphalt and driveway sealer that would otherwise be traced onto your floor. Mats are also suggested at heavy pivot locations, such as the kitchen sink or stove.
  • Add protective pads to furniture – Protect your tile by affixing felt or similar pads to the legs of any metal, iron, wood or plastic furniture that will be placed on it. Rust especially can cause staining.
  • Protect your floor when using a dolly for moving furniture or appliances. Never slide or roll heavy furniture or appliances across the floor.

Additional Tips:

  • Proper maintenance is the key to a trouble-free ceramic tile floor.
  • Vacuum or sweep your floor to remove any loose items. Take care not to scratch your tile.
  • Wipe down your ceramic floor with a damp mop at least once a week, more often for heavy traffic areas. Use a hard surface cleaner recommended by the manufacturer of your tile. Never use a detergent or soap because it can dull the surface.
  • CAUTION: Wait at least 72 hours after installation, to allow new ceramic tile and grout to dry, before damp mopping.
  • Check cure time before adding grout sealer – Unless otherwise noted, grout should cure for at least 28 days before applying a sealer.
