Carpet Fibers
The fibers used in carpet have their individual strengths. Your choice will be determined by the characteristic most important to you.
Nylon – The most widely used fiber is preferred for its strength. It is durable and resilient. Nylon carpet fiber is soft yet strong, shows color brilliantly and cleans well. Most nylons are treated with a stain-resist carpet treatment during manufacturing to provide protection against household spills and stains.
Polypropylene (Olefin) – This fiber resists fading, generates low levels of static electricity, is favorable priced, and can be engineered in outdoor applications. Polypropylene is colorfast because it is solution dyed. That means the color is added during production instead of dyed later. When used in specific carpet constructions, this yarn performs as well as most resilient fibers.
Polyester – This fiber offers versatility with exceptional softness. It is naturally stain resistant and fade resistant. It has excellent color clarity and color retention, strength, and abrasion resistance.
